Before you write, one reassurance. Nothing you have already logged is affected while we sort a problem out. Your record lives on your iPhone, not on a server, so nothing happening at our end can reach it.
You do not have to send us anything about your health, and please do not — we do not need it and would rather not receive it. What helps is:
It is free in full — every feature, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. There is no catch because there is no data business: your record stays on your device and is never collected or sold. It is a small, deliberate app, not a funnel to a paid tier.
Use Export in the app. The doctor-report PDF covers the date range you choose and is designed to be handed to a GP or neurologist — it prints legibly in black and white. You can also create an encrypted backup file you can keep or move to another device — also free.
The app's settings include an option to erase all data. It cannot be undone, and there is no copy anywhere else to restore from, so export first if you want to keep anything. Deleting the app also removes its on-device data.
An encrypted backup is the reliable route: export it on the old device, move the file across, and restore it on the new one. Respite has no cloud sync, so a record that is not exported does not travel by itself.
No. It is only requested when you first open the optional views that show what else you had logged on your attack days, and only for Sleep and Cycle Tracking. Decline it and everything else works exactly as before. You can change your mind either way in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
No, and it is not planned. Respite shows you back what you have recorded — counts, averages and plain summaries. Forecasting attacks, naming a condition or advising on medication are clinical claims that this app deliberately does not make. See the questions on the main page for more on why.
Please tell us. Wording that reads as a prediction, a diagnosis or medical advice is a bug in this app, and we would rather hear about it than not.
What Respite stores, what leaves your device, and how to exercise your rights under UK GDPR are set out in the privacy policy. Licence and liability terms are in the terms of use.
Respite is not a medical service. We cannot answer questions about your symptoms, your medication or your treatment, and nothing we send you is medical advice. Please speak to a qualified healthcare professional. If you think you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services.
